At a special meeting held today, a substantial majority of shareholders of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) approved the company's issuance of up to 1.28 billion shares of common stock to Vodafone shareholders to complete the acquisition of Vodafone Group PLC's indirect 45 percent interest in Verizon Wireless.
Verizon Communications is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. provides communications, information and entertainment products and services to consumers, businesses and governmental agencies. Co. has two reportable segments, Verizon Consumer Group (Consumer) and Verizon Business Group (Business). Co.'s Consumer segment provides consumer-focused wireless and wireline communications services and products under the Verizon brand and through wholesale and other arrangements. Co.'s Business segment provides, among others, wireless and wireline communications services and products, video and data services, corporate networking solutions, security and managed network services.
