Kerr Drug's Retail Drugstores and Specialty Pharmacy Business
Walgreen Co. (NYSE:WAG) (NASDAQ: WAG) and Kerr Drug, a privately held regional pharmacy chain in North Carolina, announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Walgreens would acquire certain assets of Kerr Drug's retail drugstores and specialty pharmacy business. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. In fiscal year 2012, Kerr Drug's retail drugstores and specialty pharmacy business recorded total sales of $381 million.
Walgreen is a drugstore chain that sells prescription and non-prescription drugs as well as general merchandise. Co.'s pharmacy, health and wellness services include retail, specialty, infusion and respiratory services, mail service, convenient care clinics and wellness centers. Co.'s Take Care Health Systems, Inc. subsidiary is a manager of in-store convenient care clinics (Healthcare Clinics). At Aug 31 2014, Co. operated 8,309 locations in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, excluding 437 Healthcare Clinics and 48 worksite pharmacies that are operated primarily within Co.'s Walgreens drugstores or locations of unconsolidated partially owned entities.
