Markel Corporation ("Markel") (NYSE: MKL) announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Alterra Capital Holdings Limited ("Alterra") (NASDAQ: ALTE; BSX: ALTE.BH). The closing follows receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals and votes in favor of the transaction by the shareholders of the two companies in February.
Markel Group is a financial holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co.'s principal business markets and underwrites specialty insurance products using multiple platforms. Co.'s investing activities are related to its underwriting operations. Co.'s insurance operations include: underwriting, which include its risk-bearing insurance and reinsurance operations; insurance-linked securities (ILS), provide investment management services for various investment products, including ILS, catastrophe bonds, insurance swaps and weather derivatives; and program services, which serves as a fronting platform that provides other insurance entities access to the property and casualty insurance market.
