Details: MAA (NYSE: MAA) announced that at its special meeting held today, shareholders overwhelmingly approved the proposed merger with Colonial Properties Trust, pursuant to the definitive merger agreement dated June 3, 2013. Approximately 87% of the outstanding shares of MAA common stock voted with respect to the proposed merger, with approximately 99% of the votes cast in favor of the proposed merger.

Mid-America Apartment Communities is a multifamily-focused, self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust. Co. owns, operates, acquires and develops apartment communities located in the Southeast, Southwest and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Co. maintains full or partial ownership of apartment communities and commercial properties across 16 states and the District of Columbia. Co.'s business is conducted principally through Mid-America Apartments, L.P., in which Co. is the sole general partner.
