Illinois American Water President Karla Olson Teasley today announced the company's acquisition of the City of Grafton water system, near Alton in Southern Illinois. The purchase of the system adds approximately 400 customers to the company's customer base in the Alton District and serves a population of nearly 600 residents.
American Water Works is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. is a publicly-traded water and wastewater utility company. Co. provides drinking water, wastewater and other related services to people in various states. Co.'s Regulated Businesses involve the ownership of utilities that provide water and wastewater services to residential, commercial, industrial, public authority, fire service and sale for resale customers. Co.'s Market-Based Businesses provide water and wastewater services to the U.S. government on military installations, as well as municipalities, and utility customers.
