Independence Realty Trust is a holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT) that acquires, owns, operates, improves and manages multifamily apartment communities across non-gateway U.S. markets. Co. conducts its business through a conventional umbrella partnership REIT structure in which all of its assets are held by, and substantially all of its operations are conducted through its operating partnership, Independence Realty Operating Partnership, LP. Co.'s subsidiary, IRT Management, LLC, provides services to it in connection with the rental, leasing, operation and management of its properties.
